The Vinyl Factory Series
In VF Live, record collectors take you inside their homes, record shops, and studios – for intimate mixes and performances. Laima has collaborated with The Vinyl Factory as an artist, writer and performer.
VF Live: Laima #1
In this mix, artist and musician Laima traverses through a zen mix of sonics that transcend boundaries between genres and forms. “This is a mix of music I usually listen to at home and serves me as study and inspiration. I have looked for artworks not categorised as fine arts, video art, music, or film. I like to find broken boundaries, where the art forms serve as a tool for a greater purpose: inciting feelings, questioning, and searching for spirituality.
VF Live: Laima #2
Contemporary art meets experimental music.
For artist and musician Laima’s second VF Live set, she returns for another deep dive into her contemporary art and experimental music collection.
VF Live: Laima #3
Film soundtracks meet experimental cinemascapes.
“In this episode I’ve selected film tracks and merged them with experimental music with a soundtrack vibe. There is a tone of psychedelic meets spiritual, with a recurrent theme of the Devil being a woman, chantings and exorcism.”
VF Live: Laima #4
A journey from Brian Eno to Aphex Twin.
“For this live set, I’ve selected some new records I’ve bought during the last few weeks. It turned it into a journey from Brian Eno to Aphex Twin. It’s a mix of ambient and meditation music like my previous sets. I messed with the pitch on the turntables, as I love to modify music through distortions. Two records I have been listening to on repeat are Gossiwor’s ‘Lighthouse’ and Cucina Povera’s ‘Zoom’. At the end of the set, I also worked out some interesting glitches while filming, and manipulated images live too.”
VF Live: Laima #5
Exploring ambient and experimental music from 2020.
“For this VF Live set, I’ve explored ambient and experimental music, featuring 2020 releases I’ve discovered and loved, such as Slow Glass and Panoram. Coincidentally, there is a reference to Japanese experimental music through Bunita Marcus’ ‘Lecture for Jo Kondo’, Satoshi and Makoto and Ono’s ‘Walking on Thin Ice’.”
VF Live: Laima #6
Celebrating female pioneers in electronic music.
Artist and musician Laima returns for her latest show, with a selection that celebrates the pioneer women in electronic music. She pays special attention to Pauline Oliveros in the set, following Laima’s VF feature delving into Oliveros’ sonic world.
“Most of these tracks are extended, which can take the listener to a meditative state. Consider the set a collage of women’s sounds.”
